Media Unit - Liverpool
Before we started the family were forced to watch a small TV and make do with limited storage space

The original design was to create a built in unit with matching cupboards either side of a radiator cover, this design was changed on site during the project when it was realised additional storage space was needed. Luckily one of the many benefits of hand making furniture like this is that you can truly make something bespoke and it wasn't too late to amend the design

Wiring was added and fed through the frame to allow downlighting in the alcoves.

Once all the wires were fed and the framing capped we coudl begin the job of sanding and filling to give a perfect smooth finish once painted

Traditional style shaker doors were made using a tennon jointing system

All exposed edges were given multiple coats of filler before being sanded and sealed with an acrylic based sealer to prevent moisture trapping and a 'fluffy' finish

Two coats of primer and three coats of eggshell paint later this family had a bespoke unit with ample storage and a focal point for the new TV
Media Unit - Liverpool

This family in Liverpool had spent years staring at a TV floating on the wall and no storage. We were initially commissioned to build a media unit that would bring life to the wall and provide both storage and a focal point for a brand new TV.

The original design was a symmetrical unit that would include a cover to hide the radiator, cupboards either side and shelving. Once we began building though it was clear that more storage was needed so we opted to extend one side and increase the space.

The homeowners had a beautiful home and it was clear that an Ikea flatpack wouldn't suffice so we set tow work on designing a traditional styled unit with shaker doors to match the rest of the furniture, but that would also include modern downlighting. To make this piece feel in keeping with the aesthetic of the home the decision was made to include high quality oak to add depth and character to the media wall.

Hallway - Abram

This recent hall, stairs and landing renovation in Wigan highlights how thoughtful design and quality materials can completely transform the feel of a home. What was once a dated and worn-through space is now bright, modern, and cohesive with the rest of the property.

We began by removing the existing flooring and installing oak-effect LVT in a herringbone pattern throughout the hallway and landing areas. This style of Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring not only looks fantastic but also offers excellent durability for high-traffic areas like entranceways and stairwells. The warm oak tones immediately lifted the space and gave it a more contemporary, welcoming feel.

To add character and definition to the walls, we installed classic-style wall panelling, carefully proportioned to suit the height and shape of each area. The panelling adds depth and interest without overwhelming the space and creates a timeless backdrop that pairs well with both modern and traditional decor.

One of the standout features of this renovation was the installation of new studio-style internal glass doors. These allow natural light to travel between rooms while still creating a sense of separation between spaces. The clean lines and minimalist black framing bring a more architectural feel to the home and help modernise the overall look.

As with all our projects, every element of this renovation—from the precise cutting of the herringbone flooring to the finishing of the panelling and doors—was completed with care and attention to detail. The result is a much brighter, more cohesive hallway that sets the tone for the rest of the home and feels more connected to the client’s overall interior style.

This kind of renovation shows how small changes across multiple elements—flooring, joinery, and internal doors—can add up to a big difference in how a home looks and feels.

At Signature Home Improvements, we specialise in turning tired, outdated spaces into stylish, functional rooms that add value and comfort to your home. This recent living room renovation project in Wigan showcases the kind of attention to detail, quality workmanship, and creative design we bring to every job.

Our client wanted to breathe new life into their living room, which previously featured dull grey flooring and lacked character. We started by replacing the old flooring with modern oak-effect LVT in a herringbone pattern—a stylish, durable, and easy-to-maintain choice that instantly elevated the room’s appearance. Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is one of our most popular flooring options, offering the perfect balance between aesthetics and practicality, especially in busy family homes.

To enhance both storage and style, we designed and built a bespoke alcove cupboard, tailored to the room’s proportions. This custom-made unit not only maximises space but also adds a clean, built-in look that seamlessly blends with the rest of the decor. Our in-house carpentry team specialises in creating made-to-measure solutions that make the most of every inch of your living area.

Next, we prepped and repainted the walls in a fresh, contemporary colour, chosen by the client to complement the warm tones of the new flooring. As part of the decorative upgrades, we also installed traditional-style wall panelling, adding depth, texture, and a touch of timeless elegance to the space.

From start to finish, every element of this living room transformation was completed by our skilled team with care and precision. We pride ourselves on delivering a complete service—from concept and design to the finishing touches—ensuring our customers are thrilled with the end result.

Bedroom Transformation - Eccles

This room was a perfect example of how taking the time to do things properly can save you money in the long run. The space had clearly undergone several previous renovations but never truly repaired.

The plasterwork had become detached from the brickwork and begun to crumble, and while the socket covers had been replaced no effort had been made to update the old and damaged wiring.

The project took a week and we were able to transform the space from a dilapidated old space to a modern bedroom.

Garage Conversion - Wigan

At Signature Home Improvements, we’re often called in to put right what cowboy builders leave behind—and that’s exactly what we did for this garage conversion project in Waign.

After the original builder abandoned the job shortly after bricking up the garage door and installing a window, the homeowners were left frustrated and unsure where to turn. We stepped in to bring their vision to life with the quality workmanship and professional service we’re known for across the Northwest.

We insulated and raised the floor to meet current standards, ensuring the space was warm, level, and comfortable. A new internal doorway was added to seamlessly link the converted garage with the rest of the home. To maximise functionality, we built custom wardrobe and cupboard storage, designed to fit perfectly within the room’s layout.

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring was installed for a durable, stylish finish—and as a special feature, we created a bespoke dog wash station tailored to the customer’s needs for their small dogs.

Dining Room, Stairway and Media Wall

At Signature Home Improvements, we specialise in turning outdated spaces into stylish, practical, and high-value areas your family can truly enjoy. This recent project showcases a complete transformation, blending clever design with high-quality craftsmanship.

We began by removing an internal wall to create a more open, flowing layout. A key feature of this renovation was replacing the existing straight staircase with a beautiful kitewinder staircase. This clever design not only added character but also created room for a new entrance into a freshly converted garage—perfect for a home office, snug, or utility space.

The old carpet and laminate flooring were lifted throughout the ground floor and replaced with elegant, hard-wearing LVT flooring for a sleek and modern finish. We also upgraded all internal doors to stylish cottage-style doors, adding timeless charm to the home’s interior.

To complete the look, we built a bespoke media wall, offering a practical and eye-catching focal point for the living area.
Living Room - Liverpool
Stage 1 - The old wallpaper needed to be removed and furniture cleared

Stage 2 - Oncve the wallpaper was stripped it was clear we had a severe damp problem so a new damp course was injected into the walls and the plaster was broken off to a height of 1.2 meters. Once this was done a membrane was installed before it was re-boarded and skimmed to ensure no further moisture penetration

Stage 3 - The out-datged coving was removed and a suspended ceiling installed where wires were run for new spotlights

Stage 4 - the walls were skimmed before a brand new laminate floor was installed.

Stage 5 - Traditional timber skirting was used

Living Room - Liverpool

This living room project was all about restoring the space from the ground up—literally—after years of damp had taken their toll.

We began by removing the old laminate flooring and uncovering plasterwork that had become damaged and compromised by persistent damp issues. To tackle the root cause, we injected a new damp proof course (DPC) to prevent rising damp and protect the room for the long term.

Once the DPC was in place, we stripped back the affected walls, installed a breathable membrane, and reboarded before applying a smooth skim coat. This layered approach ensures the walls not only look fresh and clean but are also properly protected against future moisture problems.

With the structure taken care of, we turned to the finishes. The tired flooring was replaced, and we installed new oak skirting boards—bringing warmth and a subtle touch of character to the perimeter of the room. We also upgraded the internal doors to a more modern style, instantly elevating the space and tying everything together.

The end result is a living room that feels dry, solid and beautifully finished—a transformation that’s as much about what’s behind the walls as the way the room now looks and feels.
Living Room - Widnes
Before

Stage 1 - The ceiling beams were removed, the walls skimmed and a mist coat of paint applied

Stage 2 - Wall panelling was installed

Stage 3 - The wall panelling was completed with a beading detail to add an Edwardian aesthetic before being painted and the new TV mounted above the fireplace

Completed - A new oak herringbone luxury vinyl tile floor (LVT) was installed and the final coats of paint were added
Living Room - Widnes

This living room project was all about stripping back dated features and introducing a more refined, timeless aesthetic.

The original ceiling beams, made from heavy oak, dominated the space and made the room feel darker and lower than it actually was. We carefully removed them to open up the ceiling and allow more natural light to flow through, immediately giving the space a lighter, more modern feel without losing its character.

To bring warmth and visual interest underfoot, we installed a beautiful oak-effect herringbone LVT floor. The classic parquet pattern added subtle texture and movement to the room, while the durability of LVT ensured it would stand up to everyday life with ease—perfect for a busy household that still wants a touch of elegance.

Either side of the chimney breast, we created bespoke wall panelling in the alcoves. These framed the fireplace perfectly and added architectural detail without overwhelming the room. The panelling was painted to complement the overall colour scheme, helping to balance the traditional and modern elements of the design.

The result is a space that now feels brighter, more spacious and thoughtfully finished—combining classic flooring, crisp detailing and a clean, updated layout that gives the room a completely new lease of life.
